Chiropractor Sydney Approach to Hip Pain.

The majority of hip pain is felt on one side only; there are usually several locations of the hip where pain may be felt, such as the upper/outside of the hip where the leg joins the hip, a bit further down where the leg bone connects to the hip (hip joint), more centrally close the sacrum, or on the “sit bone” where the hamstring and pelvis meet. Hip pain may also be felt at the front of the hip, which feels like it catches and impinges, as well as groin pain. Hip pain typically falls under two categories: myofascial hip pain, mainly in the muscles of the hip, and active trigger points in the lower back can also refer to the hip. Inflammation of the tendons (tendinopathy), which connect muscle to bone, is another source of hip pain.

The second category of hip pain would include structural issues within the hip joint itself, commonly referred to as intra-articular hip pain, as seen with arthritis of the hip, labral tears, and bursitis. It’s essential to get a full assessment and history taken to understand your hip pain better so you can get a treatment specific to your hip condition. If you have myofascial hip pain, treatment of the primary hip muscles, such as the glute medius/minimus, TFL, piriformis, and hip flexors, should be the focus.
